Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include receiving and dispatching routine and emergency calls for sheriff, police departments, fire, emergency medical services, Wildlife and Park, Kansas Highway Patrol, City of Anthony, City of Attica, City of Harper, emergency management, and others.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Answers 9-1-1 emergency, routine, and complaint telephone calls obtaining critical information
  • Dispatches required departmental personnel and equipment and\or relays the information to appropriate department or agency
  • Reads and interprets information on dispatch console screen to determine the reliability of dispatch priority assigned to incident, the accuracy of assignment, and the order in which calls should be dispatched, utilizing computer aided dispatch (CAD) and other computers / software to document all responses, relay instructions, or inquiries from remote units
  • Determines priorities of calls, transmits information, assigns units in the field, and determines if follow-up action is required
  • Provides instructions per protocol when handling law enforcement (EPD), emergency medical (EMD), and fire (EFD) calls for assistance
  • Relays medical and other instructions to field units according to established protocols
  • Maintains appropriate records and prepares reports of activities occurring during shift
  • Dispatches emergency public service agencies as needed
  • Communicates with the public, user agencies, and outside agencies in a courteous manner and processes information efficiently and in a calm manner
  • Utilizes TDD / TTY equipment when communicating with the hearing or speech impaired
  • Prioritizes calls and dispatches the appropriate law enforcement, fire, EMS, or other agencies utilizing a multi-channel radio and paging system
  • Relays pertinent information in a factual and concise manner to units in the field
  • Properly operates the KCJIS to send, relay, and receive inter and intra-state information
  • Learns the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) to duplicate data, information, records, and create reports through making entry into NCIC
  • Utilizes geographical information (GIS) to locate callers during emergency situations and directs emergency services to those locations
  • Accesses weather radars and disseminates severe weather information as required to emergency services
  • Maintains positive public relations with print, radio, and television media outlets
