HARPER COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICE

 

            Harper County Community Service is comprised of people that are on diversion and/or probation.  They are from the County Attorney's Office on diversion, Court Services on probation and Community Corrections on probation.

 

            These people are given Community Service to pay back their debt to the community of Harper County.  They have many jobs that they can perform for the community, i.e.:  Mowing, weed eating, painting, picking up trash, recycling and various other tasks.

 

            Community Service can work for the City, County and State of Kansas as well as Not-for-Profit Organizations and Churches.  They cannot work for private individuals or businesses. 

 

            Days normally worked are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

 

            The Community Service is currently supervised by Cecilee (CJ) Downing, who coordinates work for the clients on diversion and probation.  Through the last 5 years, community service has built up to having a pick-up, trailer, John Deere 48" cut riding lawn mower, a push mower, weed eaters, snow blower, rakes and shovels.

 

            Community Service has done work for and still do for most: Harper County Landfill, Harper County Road & Bridge, Harper County Health Department, Harper County Senior Center, Harper County Department on Aging, Anthony and Harper Libraries, Cities of Anthony, Attica and Harper, Methodist Church, Catholic Church, Episcopal Church, Christian Church, Anthony Community Care Center, USD #361, Helping Hands, Anthony, Attica and Harper Fire Departments, Attica Long Term Care Center, Anthony Learning Center, Anthony Lake Board, Harper County Fair Board, Anthony Chamber of Commerce, Harper County Sheriff Department, Anthony, Attica and Harper Police Departments, Harper County EMS and Harper County 911. 

 

            Harper County Community Service adopted a highway that is the first 1.75 mile north of Anthony starting just north of the old Anthony Drive-In Theatre, where clients pick up trash and the Harper County Pioneer Cemetery just south of the U160/K2 Junction where they mow and do the weed eating.
